Making combat feel good

A prototype to explore responsive, physics-driven melee combat with satisfying game feel — the kind of moment-to-moment feedback that keeps players engaged.

Everything: mechanics, physics tuning, and the performance-minded systems underneath.

03Approach

Feel first, then systems

Iterated on hit-stop, knockback and animation cancelling until the combat felt right, then generalized the mechanics into reusable systems with an eye on frame budget.

04Outcome

A satisfying vertical slice

A tight, replayable combat loop that validated the core mechanic and the underlying systems for a larger build.
